Nearly 20 years ago, Marie and Chris — both physical therapists by profession — unknowingly embarked upon parallel journeys from the Philippines to the US in search of a better future. While their new life chapters began separately with Chris first landing in California and Marie in Alabama, serendipity and the Sunshine State brought the two together in 2019 as colleagues at the VNA of the Treasure Coast. After discovering their shared roots, dreams, life experiences and interests, a duo was quickly born!
The best friends soon began to toss around the idea of opening a small Vero-based coffee shop, but those dreams were abruptly put on hold in 2020 when the unthinkable happened to us all. Beyond the obvious challenges, there was little respite for healthcare professionals during that time. But silver linings do exist.
Fast forward to 2024: When the stars aligned and the idea was reimagined. When Marie learned that her friend Livia Sorger was selling her popular gelato shop, Sweet Kiss, the pair decided that it was the right place at the right time to make their dream a reality. Their offer was accepted, and voilà! Sweet Kiss was reborn as Butter Cup Bakery Café!
Marie and Chris approached their new business like a warm embrace, eager to adopt Sweet Kiss’s loyal following and honor its beloved signature gelato recipes. With the addition of gourmet pastries, coffee, and espresso to the already-famous gelato (plus endless Affogato offerings through the combination of the two!) a true Bakery Café opened its doors to the community in September 2024.
Conveniently located on Vero Beach’s Miracle Mile, BCBC is a new business with an old soul. We strive to be your local dessert destination of choice — always providing both comfort and charm, with friendly smiles and a welcoming small-town feel.
